Biostone
2024
Biostone introduces the idea of biodegradable outdoor furniture allowing for multispecies integration – for a positive impact on the biodiversity of urban areas.
Over the last century, concrete and fossil fuel-based or high-emission materials have become the norm and standard for architecture, including public seating products for urban, park and nature environments. In the face of climate change, these industries are looking for regenerative, circular and sustainable solutions that not only reduce the negative impact on the environment but effectively create biodiversity.
Regenerative design for public space providing means to reconnect with nature holds the power to effectively balance the human’s relationship with the natural world. Using less high-emission materials and substituting them with biodegradable materials can contribute to a lower carbon footprint of architecture.
The Biostone straw-based public seating furniture invites diverse species to cohabitation. On top of wellbeing through togetherness for the human users, the pieces deliver nesting facilities for various size animals and insects.
